How it works

A short phone call, help finding a restoration contractor, and every hiring decision left to you.

Step by step

  1. Get safe first. If there is fire, a gas smell, energized water, structural danger or injury, leave and call 911.
  2. Call (866) 937-3230. We'll ask what happened, where the property is, which areas are affected and how urgent it is.
  3. We try to find a match. We look for an independent contractor who handles that type of damage and serves your area, then connect your call or pass along your request.
  4. The contractor takes it from there. They arrange an inspection, explain what they recommend, and give you their own estimate, contract and schedule.
  5. You choose. You are never obligated to hire a contractor you're connected with. You can ask questions, get other estimates or decline.

What we can and can't promise

We can promise to listen and to try to connect you with an independent contractor. We can't promise that a contractor will be available, how quickly anyone can arrive, what the work will cost or that your insurer will pay for it. Those depend on local providers, the job and your policy.

Questions to ask any restoration contractor

  • Do you hold any state or local license required for this work, and can I see it?
  • Are you insured, and will you provide a certificate of insurance?
  • Do your technicians follow industry standards, such as IICRC S500 for water damage, S520 for mold or S700 for fire and smoke?
  • Will you give me a written scope of work and estimate before starting?
  • How will you document moisture readings or other progress, and how will you know the job is finished?
  • Will you work with my insurance company's process, and what will I be responsible for paying?

Insurance basics

Report the loss to your insurer or agent as soon as you can and ask what documentation they need. Take photos before cleanup, keep damaged items until the adjuster says otherwise if it is safe to do so, and save receipts. Standard homeowners policies typically exclude flood damage; flood losses are usually covered only by a separate flood policy. Your policy wording controls.

Frequently asked questions

Do I pay Fire & Water Energy for the referral?

No. We do not charge callers for the referral. Any work you agree to is between you and the independent contractor, who sets their own prices and terms.

Can I ask for a specific contractor or get more than one estimate?

Yes. You are free to hire anyone you choose, get multiple estimates or decline a contractor you are connected with.

What if no contractor is available in my area?

It can happen, especially after large regional storms when local contractors are overwhelmed. If we cannot connect you, we will tell you, and you can continue to look on your own.
